Living Waters Asia conducted a Biblical Evangelism Seminar last April 14, 2018. Hosting the seminar is Springs of Life Christian Church at San Miguel, Bulacan, which is being led by Pastor Tom Limas. Attending the event were Christians, not only from the said town, but also from Cabanatuan City and Baliuag, Bulacan.
The venue was packed by believers who were eager to learn how they can further glorify God in their lives through evangelism. But judging from the reception of the attendees, it was clear that many of them were hearing about the need to include the Ten Commandments in their Gospel presentation for the first time. This made the seminar more interesting for them. The team from LWA explained why the biblical principle of evangelism is "Law to the proud, grace to the humble", using support from God's Word. A couple of LWA volunteers also gave their testimony about their involvement in the ministry of evangelism.
At the conclusion of the seminar, LWA director, Dennis Mark Aglosolos, gave a challenge to everyone to be more involved in the work of reaching people to Christ. He reminded them that people around us are making their way to an eternity of punishment, not knowing when their lives here on earth would end. This is the reason why evangelism must be treated with urgency.
Please pray that everyone who attended the training will be moved to heed the Great Commission in their lives.
Mayon Volcano in the province of Albay, famous for its almost perfect cone shape, has been active in the past weeks, spewing lava and ash in surrounding towns and cities in the area. Many from outside of the province have been thinking twice into going to this famous tourist destination because of fear of being caught in the middle of a huge volcanic eruption.
But this was not the case for pastors and Christians that attended Living Waters Asia's Way of the Master seminar at Ligao City, Albay last January 19. The venue at Christ to the Philippines was packed by Christians (more than a hundred people) who were eager to learn how to share the Gospel biblically, effectively, the way Jesus did. Attendees came from different towns and cities of Albay and even from outside of the province.
LWA Director, Dennis Mark Aglosolos, showed the reality of false converts in churches and explained that we can blame the proliferation of the modern Gospel message for it which promises love, joy, peace, fulfillment and lasting happiness to people which is contrary to the real Christian experience in this world. He also challenged participants to really examine current evangelism practices of Christians to see if they really have any biblical bases.
The six-hour seminar ended on a high note as attendees went home with renewed zeal in their hearts to reach the lost and to do it in a God-glorifying way.
We are happy to have also done some evangelism the day before the seminar. Gospel tracts were given out to people and we were able to personally share the Gospel to several students in Ligao City.
Please pray that God would use the seminar we conducted there to bring more souls to the foot of the cross of Christ.
The Christmas season is one of the busiest in the LWA yearly calendar. Because people tend to be nicer and more accommodating during this time of the year, it is a great time to share the Gospel. We at Living Waters Asia won't dare let such great opportunity to declare the Good News pass, that's why we conduct outreaches during the month of December.
Last December 4, we did our yearly Christmas party for the residents of Tanglaw Pag-asa (Light of Hope) juvenile detention facility of the province of Bulacan. LWA has been coming here for the last 11 years for weekly Bible study and our Christmas party this year there is the 12th that we've done.
We had the usual games and Christmas carol singing that the residents of the facility really enjoyed. Those that joined the games got the chance to receive Christmas treats, win or lose. There were residents that also rendered dance and song numbers to further make the event more fun. Special food were also served to the residents and to the facility social workers and guards.
But the highlight of the day was of course, the Christmas message delivered by the LWA director, Dennis Mark Aglosolos. Dennis talked about Joseph, the husband of Mary. In the Christmas account, Joseph almost broke up with Mary because he didn't want to cast a negative image for her as she was already pregnant when they weren't married yet. But God sent an angel to explain to him that the baby Mary was carrying was from the Holy Spirit and that He will be the Savior. Dennis emphasized that God wanted Joseph to have, even a small part on His plan to bring salvation to man. In the same way, God does not want man to miss receiving the salvation He offers through Christ.
The event at this juvenile detention facility was a success for the simple reason that the Gospel was preached and many heard.
A few days later, in the same week, December 8 to be exact, LWA volunteers and members of Banner of Truth Independent Baptist Church (BTIBC) and people from Notre Christi Academy of the Philippines (NCAP) bonded together to do an outreach at Namayan Island in the City of Malolos, Bulacan. This community is secluded from the rest of the city as you have to travel by boat on murky waters for at least 30 minutes to get there. As a result, the basic comforts of community life like stores, medical facilities, schools, access to clean water, etc., are almost absent in the island.
LWA, members of BTIBC and pupils and students of NCAP, all contributed to gather food gifts, children's vitamins and old clothes for the people of this island community. Three weeks before our outreach there, we gave in advance needed materials for the installation of a line for clean water. We coordinated for about 2 months with the community leaders of the island to set up this Christmas outreach and last Friday, the event happened.
Before the gift giving, we were given the chance to preach the Gospel. It was a surprise that the place they prepared for us to preach was a small Catholic church. And with graven images as background for us, we preached sin, righteousness and judgment to come. Dennis explained that sin was the reason why we have a cursed world and that Christmas day happened because of God's plan to bring salvation to man. People of this community were directed to the sacrifice of Christ at the cross as the only acceptable solution to man's impending punishment and were made to know that the response God wants from us to the Gospel message is humility that drives us to repent of our sins and trust Jesus for our salvation. We praise the Lord for the opportunity He gave us to deliver the life-saving message of the Gospel to so many people this Christmas season. We hope and pray that He'll give us more opportunities to do the same before this season ends.
When you're doing the will of God, you will for sure experience His hand blessing what you're doing for His glory. That's exactly what we experienced in our recently concluded yearly evangelistic mission trip. GOSPEL BUZZ 2017 (October 23-27) at Aurora province was a big success all because of our Master!
When we go to a particular province to share the Gospel, most of the time, we don't have arranged schedule of where to go or what kind of evangelism to do. We just go with the opportunities God opens for us. Such was the case for Gospel Buzz 2017. We had with us thousands of Gospel tracts, ice-breakers for one-to-one witnessing sessions, sound system for open-air preaching, etc. We went there hoping that we can use all of them. By God's grace, He allowed us to really use them and even more.
When we went to the city of Maria Aurora, we really wanted to do some open-air preaching at their public market. When we got to the place, we were told that we cannot just preach without a mayor's permit. At first, because we realized that we will only be in that city for the morning and that securing the permit will take a lot of our time, we made ourselves content with opportunities to just distribute Gospel tracts and do one-to-one presentations. But the LWA director really wanted to open air preach, and so, he and his son went to the municipal building and requested that they get to talk to the city mayor. Because the staff of the mayor were thrilled with the Duterte Million Peso tracts we gave them, they were more than willing to squeeze us in the mayor's morning schedule so we can get his permission to do what we wanted to do. When we got our chance, we told the mayor what our group is doing there in his city and requested that we be given a permit to open-air preach in their market area. The mayor responded by requesting that we share to him what we were planning to preach at his jurisdiction. That really surprised our director because the mayor was asking him to share the Gospel to him. What an opportunity! After sharing the Gospel to him, he then told us that we got his permission and the permit will be free of charge for us. We were then instructed to go to another office where the permit will be printed. When we got to that office, the one in-charge, after telling her what the permit was all about, again asked our director to share what we intend to preach at the market to her and her staff. Another door for the Gospel was opened! We had a great time preaching the Gospel at the market place after that.
The open-air preaching sessions at Maria Aurora ended pass twelve noon. By that time, the team was badly needing of lunch. Our bus went around the area for about twenty minutes, looking for a place to eat. We couldn't find one. The bus driver, sensing that if we don't get our lunch soon, we will choose to eat him instead (just joking), entered a street hoping to find food for us. But as we were driving that street, a high school happened to just dismissed their students from their morning exams. We quickly disembarked our bus and gave tracts to hundreds of students, equally hungry as the LWA team. God used our need for food to open for us an opportunity to deliver the Gospel to people.
The following day, we went to the town of San Luis. When we got there, there were very few people around. A big amount of that morning was spent looking for people to give tracts to. But that morning was not wasted. One of the LWA team members was able to talk to the principal of a national high school and was able to get an invitation for us to go back the next morning to share the Gospel to the school during their flag ceremony. The following day, we preached the Gospel to about eight hundred high school students and teachers.
On another day, we went to the huge public market of Baler, Aurora. We again wanted to open-air preach. And so, the LWA director looked for the market manager to ask for permission. Because the manager felt that we were very respectful in first asking for his permission, he not only allowed us to do two open-air preaching sessions in any place we choose in the market that day, he even asked us to come back the morning that we go back home to do one more open-air preaching session there.
While there in Baler, Aurora, we were also able to do an evening Way of The Master seminar for the members of Baler Bay Lighthouse Baptist Church. We were so happy for the opportunity to do the seminar that opened the eyes of that congregation to what biblical evangelism really is about and challenged them to be more involved in the Great Commission.
We went home filled with joy for what God had allowed to be accomplished in this year's GOSPEL BUZZ. We thank all of you who prayed and financially supported this outreach. Heaven will someday reveal to us the results of our evangelism efforts. Let's continue praying for everyone that read and heard the Gospel during GOSPEL BUZZ 2017.
