We are very happy to inform you that we are back from our outreach in Japan. We were there from June 20 to July 2, working along side churches and ministries with the goal of delivering the Gospel to people there.
We were mostly in the area of Misawa, in the Aomori prefecture. This area is where an American air base is situated. That is why we were able to be a part of the American Day celebrations last June 23. We gave out tracts to people, both to Japanese and Americans (and even Filipinos working at the base), and had several conversations about the Gospel with them. But the day before that, we were at an orphanage to not only share the Good News, but to also bring joy to the kids there. We sang songs with them, played games with them, and enjoyed eating lots of ice cream with the kids.
During the day time, our team was at the streets doing evangelism. We gave out tracts to people and engaged them in conversations whenever possible. We also did a lot of open-air preaching sessions in several venues in Misawa.
In the evenings, we were conducting Bible study with members of different churches. In these events, we spent time explaining what the Gospel message really is and how it can be effectively delivered to people.
We also visited two religious sites in Aomori. We went to what they call "The Tomb of Christ". People there have this legend that says Jesus' body is actually buried there. Supposedly, Jesus escaped his crucifixion and made his way to Aomori and lived there up to his death at an old age of 106. There's even a supposed last will and testament of Christ and it's displayed at the site's museum. We also visited the "Big Buddha" site. The place was enormous as well as the statue of Buddha. In both of these sites, the Living Waters Asia team members were interviewed and video recorded explaining why the Gospel made more sense than what these religions teach.
Then on June 29, we conducted the Living Waters Asia Institute at the Misawa Civic Center. There, we did a biblical evangelism workshop for Christians in the area. The following day, the sermon for the worship service at Calvary Baptist Church of Misawa came from the LWA director.
We thank all of you who prayed and gave for this outreach. We also would like to thank the pastors and churches that hosted us while we were there. But one thing we are sure of is that there should be more work of evangelism that must still be done in Japan. We have realized that most of the Japanese haven't even heard the name "Jesus" before, much more, the Gospel message. We hope to go there again and continue what we started doing in the "land of the rising sun" in this last outreach.
