Attending this year's retreat were about 80 students and their teachers. Although the theme of the retreat is all about preparing these young people for college, the Gospel was fully merged in the topics that were discussed. In the minds of the students, the event was just a retreat, but in our minds, our goal was to plant seeds of the Gospel in the participants' hearts.
Kim Desiderio talked about the fads in college that may affect a person negatively. But in his talk, he spent a considerable amount of time explaining what a true child of God is. Dennis Mark Aglosolos delivered two lectures. The first was about the dangers of peer pressure and the other one was about dangerous worldviews that colleges teach. The Christian worldview was hailed in the said talks as the best principle for living life as it acknowledges that God's ways and wisdom is above any that this world could propose.
Every morning, a talk was delivered by Dennis which exclusively explained the Gospel. One student, after one of the said talks, commented to Dennis that she really appreciated how we emphasized the need to prepare for the after-life as this was something that young minds like hers never saw as very important in this stage of their life.
There were the usual fun games you expect in youth camps. We're glad that the students enjoyed the games we prepared for them. But above all, we are so happy that God has allowed us to make clear the Gospel message to these young people through this retreat. We can't wait for the next youth evangelistic camp in our yearly schedule which happens next summer.
