This morning, I had the privilege of delivering the message in the worship service of Mustard Seed Christian Baptist Church. The message focused on Hebrews 2:16 "For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham."
Oh, how special we are to God. When Satan and his companion angels rebelled against God, God right away condemned them to Hell:
Isaiah 14:12-15 “12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. 15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.”
But not so with man. Right after Adam and Eve fell, God right away promised the solution... “And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.” (Genesis 3:15) Mary's seed, Jesus, will be the Solution! And if you believe that God is sovereign and omniscient, you will agree with me that this solution has been set way before the Fall of man.
The Bible clearly tells us that angels are of higher kind than man. The Psalmist once asked, “What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? 5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels…” (Psalm 8:4-5). But God chose to save mankind, not the angels. Grace was the only reason God chose to provide salvation for man instead of the angels. Nothing in us can make God so pleased with us for Him to say, "I want to save man." For one, we can't do many things angels can. Second, we are as rebellious of God as Satan and his demons. But still, "...he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham."
If only every Christian would realize this truth, I really believe that we will always live with gratitude to God. Gratitude that will move us to live with obedience and faithfulness to God. And if only every Christian would truly realize how special we are to God, we will be moved to declare the true Gospel to more of the unsaved so that they also, will experience the pleasures of being reconciled to God. Show people how they are so offensive against God with their sins using the Law and then how much God has shown man favor through His death at the cross, then as promised by the Scripture, the goodness of the Lord will lead them to repentance (Romans 2:4).
Praise the Lord that "...he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham."!!!
