"But why use a butter knife (a life-enhancement Gospel) to cut down a Redwood when you can use a chain saw (the 10 Commandments)." --- Steve P. Sanchez
That's a great quote about the place of the Law in our Gospel presentation from Steve P. Sanchez' article about the message delivered in the recent Harvest Crusade in his weblog at http://stonethepreacher.com. Pastor Greg Laurie delivered the message. See if you agree with Steve's opinion on how Pastor Laurie could have improved significantly on the Gospel message he delivered in the event attended by thousands of non-believers. Technology, when used incorrectly, can bring you to the lowest kind of morality. But if it's used for God's glory, it can help clearly declare the truth. Here's an example. Watch it and then send the link to your unsaved friends and relatives.
Today, the legislative branches of the US Congress reached a compromise regarding the debate of increasing the debt ceiling of the country. The debate has been going on for weeks and with just two days before the deadline where a deadlock on the issue would mean a default in the US economy which will greatly affect the recovery efforts of the "land of the free and the home of the brave", the lawmakers scrambled for a deal. Up to the writing of this article, the details of the deal have not been made available to everyone. Everyone just hopes that the deal will be fair to everyone concern. As if there is such a thing as a "fair deal" in this world.
Two-thousand years ago, Man benefited from a very unfair deal to solve a big problem. Man, in his self-centered ways, offended the Laws set by a sovereign God who gave him life and everything that he needs. Man did not care whether he was going against the powerful One as long as he satisfies the hunger of his flesh. He (Man) enjoyed it even if he sees judgment for all his wrongdoings just a reach away. He insulted God with his craving for more sin in his life. He was so selfish! "Wicked" could not fully describe the way he lived against the will of his Creator. Man really deserved to be punished for the "wages of his sin is death" (Romans 6:23)! He has to pay his debt.
How did God react from the mockery that man hurled at Him? He gave him what he did not deserve--- LOVE. You see, God was intent in getting His justice. He will not let sin go unpunished. But He also wanted to make a way for Man to be spared from the punishment awaiting him. If God gave Man what he deserves, then it's instant Hell for him. So God who is rich in mercy, sent His only begotten Son into the world to die for the sins of mankind. He punished our sins in the person of the sinless Jesus. His death was made available as payment for mankind's sins. God got His justice as well as made a way for Man to evade Hell at the expense of His beloved Son. Here's the deal... we repent of our sins and trust on Jesus for our salvation, the death of God's Son becomes the payment for our sins. That is so unfair on God's part. We sinned against Him and yet He pays for our sins. Come to think of it, that's not really a deal. That's LOVE! The response of repentance and faith moves God to remove our burden of sin. He forgives and cleanses us and then promises to us eternal life with Him in Heaven.
Has your debt been paid for already by Jesus' sacrifice? Don't take too long to run to His cross. Tomorrow may be too late to have your debt cancelled.
