Last weekend, police in Russia violently dispelled gay rights activists who were trying to stage a rally near the Kremlin wall despite a ban on it. Three global gay rights leaders were arrested as a result of their attempt.
In an article posted today at Yahoo.ph, it reported a study that says that more countries are accepting homosexuals in their societies (Read the article). Only four countries of the thirty that were studied showed a further decrease in approval of homosexuality from 1988 to 2008. Even here in the Philippines, a country heralded as the only "Christian" nation in Asia (although I doubt if that's true), acceptance of homosexuality has been going north. I remember two decades ago, a homosexual will not dare cross-dress in public. He will be the object of ridicule if he does so. Today, that's not anymore the case. An Australian friend who was with us two New Year's Day ago joined us at Luneta Park as we preached the Gospel to thousands of people who were in revelry in the park that day. He was shocked by how openly gays were parading themselves in the country. I was likewise shocked by his reaction as all along, I thought Australians were more accepting of homosexuals than Filipinos. My heart really sank that day as I realized how low in terms of morals my country has dipped.
The Bible clearly tells us that God is against this kind of lifestyle. He destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because of their many sins, with homosexuality as one of the most serious (Genesis 18-19). 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 declares that people who practice homosexuality will not inherit the Kingdom of God. I've heard gay rights activists say that they don't believe God condemns homosexuals because their understanding of God is someone who is loving. They're right... because the God they are talking about is their invention, and he does not exists. A few years back, I was invited to be one of the judges of a debate in national television regarding same-sex marriage. I was shocked when a Catholic priest in the show said that God will not condemn sinners and he used the story in John 8:1-11 about the woman caught in adultery as his proof. Unfortunately for him, a pastor was part of the panel and he quickly pointed out that Jesus' forgiveness of the woman anchored on His direction for her to "go and sin no more." Supporters of the gay rights movement further argue that "God only hates the sin but not the sinner." Well, they've forgotten that no matter how much God has no pleasure in the death of the wicked (Ezekiel 33:11), the sin and the sinner will forever be NOT separated. And so, the sinner still experiences the full wrath of God in Hell when his life here on earth ends.
You might be saying now, "Okay, you've made your point regarding God's disapproval of homosexuality. But what about the homosexuals' civil liberties? Do they have any freedom at all?" Of course, they should still be entitled to rights...as long as the rights they demand run a long with what the Bible calls "moral." No individual is given the right to kill someone unlawfully or rape someone because that is considered as immoral. And who established the immorality of murder and rape? God through His written Word.
Education is a right of every person and the Bible has nothing against it, homosexuals should have that. Suffrage is a right of every person and the Bible has nothing against it, they should also have that. Work is a right of every person and the Bible has nothing against it, they should likewise have that. Marriage, the Bible defines, is for a man and a woman, therefore, same-sex marriage is a "no-no." Parenthood is the duty of a father and a mother according to the Bible. Homosexuals must not redefine parenthood as likewise between two people of the same sex. The Bible likewise do not give homosexuals any right to be in the leadership of any Christian church, therefore, homosexuals must have no role in running the Church. The Bible is black and white in terms of what is moral and what is not. Read it and you'll be guided accordingly.
But God is rich in mercy and not willing that any should perish. He calls everyone, including the homosexuals to repent and get right with Him. The greatest freedom is not the freedom to do whatever your flesh wants to do. The greatest freedom is the freedom from sin and the judgment of the Law against every sinner. God wants every sinner to be removed from the bondage of the Law and be under His wonderful grace; be moved from darkness to light; to pass from death to life. Like any other sinner, the homosexual is a transgressor of the Law. And because of that, he faces eternal punishment in Hell. But God, with His great love, sent His only begotten Son, Jesus to die on our place. He made a payment for our sins. He is offering us the benefits of Jesus' sacrifice... forgiveness and eternal life in Heaven. You need only to repent of your sins and trust in Jesus for your salvation and the benefits are already yours.

Today, at least half of the world is in a celebratory mood after U.S. President Barack Obama announced that a small group of U.S. special forces was able to kill Al-Qaeda leader and mastermind of the Sept. 11, 2001 attack on the U.S., Osama Bin Laden. While I do not share the joy of many for his death because I would have wanted this Muslim extremist to get right with God so that he won't go to Hell, I share everyone's joy for the justice that was finally achieved for the thousands of death this spiritually blinded person has caused.
The cheers that was heard in cities like Washington D.C. and New York were really a show of jubilation for the justice that took about a decade to achieve. Several people described Bin Laden's death as a "payback". They were correct. Justice is really a form of payback. The Bible described justice as "eye for an eye" and "tooth for a tooth" (Leviticus 24:20). Death was what Osama caused thousands and so billions today are joyous for his own death. If only everyone would realize that in the same way that they value justice and will not allow anyone who has done wrong to go unpunished, God likewise regards justice so much that He will not allow anyone who has offended His Laws to go unpunished.
The Bible tells us that sin is transgression of the Law (1 John 3:4) and that the payment for sin is death (Romans 6:23). There is a reason why God will send man to Hell. When a man dies in his sins, he goes to face the punishment for them. This is the reason why God does not take pleasure in the death of a sinful person (Ezekiel 33:11). He values justice so much and He cannot turn away from this character trait of his. He will punish anyone that sins against Him without exception. Proverbs 17:15 tells us that "He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD." So despite His love for his creation, you can be sure that justice will be served in God's court.
But God solved the dilemma of His justice and His loving nature when He sent his Son, Jesus, to die on our place. He will never ever justify a wicked person and so, He placed the sins of mankind on Jesus as if He was the one who committed all of those sins. 2 Corinthians 5:21 expresses this beautiful truth so well... "For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him." When we repent of our sins and place our trust on Jesus for our salvation, our punishment is canceled and yet God still did not justify us who are wicked, because He transferred our sins on His Son who suffered on our place, making us sinless in His sight. Although Isaiah 53:10 tells us that "...it pleased the LORD to bruise him", because through the cross, His justice was served, Romans 5:8 tells us that this was also His demonstration of love towards us. Justice and love were both shown while Jesus was suffering at the cross. I couldn't imagine a better plan for our salvation than that. Only God could think of a solution like that!
Man, in his self-centered nature, cries for justice every time he is wronged. May he soon realize that he, himself, has wronged the God of this universe. And in the same way that he believes he deserves to be given justice for the wrong others have done against him, God will also one day demand that justice be served for the offenses man has done against Him.
Oh, that man would embrace God's solution before it's too late!
